Traffic Incident at 3400 Greens Road

November 8, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 3400 block of Greens Road about 12:40 a.m. today (November 8).

The identity of the male driver, 27, is being withheld pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office. The other driver, a 59-year-old female, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in an unknown condition.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D.S. Runyan and Officer D.J. Gutierrez reported:

A witness reported seeing a silver Mazda traveling at a high rate of speed westbound in the 3400 block of Greens Road, when the vehicle drove off the right side of the road. The driver then overcorrected and crossed the centerline, striking a black BMW head-on. The driver of the Mazda died instantly. HFD personnel arrived and had to extricate the female driver of the BMW from her vehicle before transporting her to the hospital for her injuries to her left leg.

The investigation is continuing and awaiting toxicology test results from the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.
