Update on Incident at 5300 W. Bellfort

May 16, 2006 -- Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal stabbing of a man at 5300 W. Bellfort about 9:15 p. m. on Saturday (May 13).

The suspect, Michael Mbugua (b/m, DOB 9/1/84), is charged with murder in the 339th State District Court.

The victim is identified as Bruce Laine Caldwell, 20, of 12700 Brandon Bend in Missouri City. He suffered multiple stab wounds and was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.D. Newcomb and Officer T. Huynh reported:

Mbugua and Caldwell, who were passengers in a vehicle, were arguing when Mbugua stabbed Caldwell several times causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash. Caldwell was able to get out of the vehicle and run, but Mbugua chased him down and stabbed him several more times.
