Incident at 10202 Club Creek #2515
March 14, 2006 --
Houston police are investigating the apparent suicide of a barricaded
suspect who shot a woman at 10202 Club Creek #2515 about 5:20
a.m. today (Mar. 14).
The deceased suspect is identified as Juan Antonio
Romero (H/m, DOB 11-23-72).
The female, identified as Aracely Cardenas Gomez,
29, of 7700 Club Creek #2304 received a gunshot wound to the mouth
and hand. She was taken by private vehicle to Memorial Hermann
Southwest Hospital where she is expected to recover from her injuries.
HPD Homicide Division Officers R. P. Martinez
and T. J. McCorvey reported:
Family members contacted police after receiving
several calls from the suspect, Juan Antonio Romero, threatening
to kill himself. During one of the phone calls, Romero advised
he was at his apartment. After realizing Gomez's vehicle was at
that location, family members became worried about her. Ms. Gomez,
three months pregnant with Romero's baby, was in the process of
breaking up with him. The couple did not live together.
Officers responded to the location and attempted
to make contact with the suspect. Several shots were heard from
inside the residence and then Ms. Gomez ran out of the apartment
bleeding from her mouth and hand. When officers learned Ms. Gomez's
five-year-old daughter was still inside the apartment, HPD SWAT
officers were called to the scene. After making entry into the
apartment, the child was found unharmed and the suspect dead from
an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
