Update on Incident at 6000 Bissonnet #229
June 24, 2006 -- A suspect wanted
in the fatal stabbing of a woman at 6000 Bissonnet #229 on May
4, 2004 has been arrested.
The suspect, Elber Ruben Vasquez (H/m, DOB 12/22/84),
is charged with murder in the 262nd State District Court.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Ramsey and
Officer R.A. Swainson reported:
Vasquez stabbed Mireya Hernandez numerous times
in her apartment in the presence of her two small children on
May 4, 2004 and immediately fled to Mexico. Houston Police Homicide
Investigators developed information that lead to murder charges
being filed against Vasquez who was eventually arrested in Mexico
with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service. Investigators,
along with the Harris County District Attorney's office, initiated
steps to bring Vasquez back from Mexico to face a Harris County
Jury. Several months after his arrest, the Justice Department
and Mexican authorities agreed to the extradition of Vasquez to
the United States. He arrived in Houston on Friday (June 23) and
was placed in jail for this murder.
