Incident at 5600 Chimney Rock
June 19, 2006 -- Houston police
are investigating the fatal shooting of a man found by SWAT officers
at 5600 Chimney Rock about 10:15 p.m. on Sunday (June 18).
The identity of the deceased male is pending
notification to family members. He suffered a self-inflicted gunshot
wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S. Kennedy and
Officer I.F. Flores Jr. reported:
HFD arson investigators were attempting to serve
a warrant on the male for burning a former girlfriend's car after
their relationship had ended. When HFD investigators arrived at
the male's address, he refused to open the door and indicated
he was going to kill himself. The investigators notified the HPD,
and the SWAT Team responded to the scene. Attempts to convince
the male to surrender were not successful. After a period of time
with no further response from the male, SWAT officers made entry
into the residence and found the male dead.
Since the incident is considered an in-custody
death in the presence of police officers, the case is being investigated
by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
