Incident at 11200 Fuqua
June 9, 2006 -- Charges have
been filed against a suspect who pulled a gun on a Houston police
officer at 11200 Fuqua about 2:10 a.m. on Thursday (June 8).
The suspect, Christopher Rashid Hartley (b/m,
DOB 2-12-78), has been charged with aggravated assault on a public
servant in the 177th State District Court. A second suspect, Doyle
Tyrone Tompkins (b/m, DOB 6-18-73) has been charged with felony
evading in the same court and for having an outstanding felony
narcotics warrant.
HPD Officer D.D. Davis, sworn in as an officer
in March of 1983 and assigned to the Clear Lake Patrol Division,
was not injured.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant L.A. Flores and
Officer T.R. Cunningham reported:
Officer Davis arrived to assist another HPD officer
who had stopped a vehicle for speeding at 11200 Fuqua and discovered
the driver was wanted on a felony narcotics warrant. After suspect
Tompkins refused to exit the vehicle, Officer Davis approached
the passenger's side where suspect Hartley was sitting. When Hartley
showed a gun, Officer Davis discharged his weapon as he was retreating.
Suspect Tompkins then sped away in the vehicle with officers in
pursuit. After losing the suspects, officers located their vehicle
abandoned at the intersection of Japonica and Flowers. An HPD
K-9 arrived shortly after and located the suspects in the 6700
block of Japonica, where they were taken into custody without
further incident.
Suspect Hartley's weapon was recovered at the
scene.
