Update on Incident at 5642 Market
January 26, 2006 -- Charges
have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting
of a man at 5642 Market #6 about 2:15 a.m. on January 14.
The suspect, John
Edward Collins (b/m, DOB 3/22/76), is charged with capital
murder in the 337th State District Court and is still at-large.
Collins is believed to be in the Houston area, however, may have
fled to Louisiana.
The victim has been identified as Charles Deon
Frear, 28, of 5642 Market #6. He suffered a gunshot wound to the
head.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C.T. Mosqueda
and Officer L. Benavidez reported:
John Collins shot Mr. Frear while committing
an aggravated robbery. According to witnesses, a black female
suspect, possibly an acquaintance of the victim's family, went
to Frear's apartment to visit. As she was leaving, Collins forced
his way inside the residence and began robbing Frear and his family.
During the robbery, Collins produced a handgun and shot Frear.
Both fled the scene on foot. Frear was transported to Memorial
Hermann Hospital where he later died.
