Traffic Incident at 4800 South Loop East
January 25, 2006 -- Houston
police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 4800
block of the South Loop East about 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, January
24, 2006.
The male victim's identity is unknown at this
time.
HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant
R. A. Gonzales and Officers R. Stafford and R. Breiding reported:
According to an eyewitness, the driver was traveling
in the 4800 block of the South Loop East when he lost control
of a stolen truck and swerved across two lanes of traffic, before
striking the outside guardrail. The impact and sloping embankment
caused the truck to roll over several times, ejecting all four
people inside, prior to coming to a stop on the service road.
One of the passengers was pronounced dead at the scene and the
other three were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with
non-life threatening injuries. During the investigation, officers
found marijuana inside the truck and learned the truck had been
stolen in an aggravated robbery. The 16-year-old male driver of
the vehicle will be questioned by HPD Juvenile Division
investigators.
The investigation is continuing.
