Update on Incident at 6138 Ridgeway Drive

December 1, 2006 -- A man shot at 6138 Ridgeway Drive about 12:45 a.m. today (December 1) has died from his injuries.

The victim, Akil Walkes, 22, of 6138 Ridgeway Drive, suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 9:15 a.m. today.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant O. Belmarez and Officer E. Carstens reported:

Mr. Walkes received a phone call from the suspect and soon thereafter walked outside his residence. He returned inside a short time later, led at gunpoint, by three black male suspects, who tied, robbed, and then shot Walkes before leaving.

Responding officers found Walkes inside his home.
