Incident at 10301 Sandpiper

August 27, 2006 -- Houston Police Department homicide investigators are investigating the murder of an adult male (Hurricane Katrina evacuee) that occurred at 10301 Sandpiper at 7:30 p.m. on August 26, 2006.

Houston Police Department Homicide Division Sergeant R. Torres and Officer T. Hufstedler report:

On August 26, 2006, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the victim, Cory Chevell Stovall (b/m 7-24-81) was shot and killed by unknown suspects at 10,301 Sandpiper. The shooting occurred in the courtyard area of the Regency Walk apartments. Although no motive has been established at this time, it does not appear to be robbery related. Two individuals, also Katrina evacuees, are being held for questioning but no charges have been filed.

Investigators have determined that a murder warrant was outstanding for Cory Chevell Stovall by the Houma, Louisiana police department. It is unknown at this time if there is any relation between the warrant for his arrest and his own murder.
