Incident at 2900 North Freeway

August 22, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 2900 North Freeway service road about 10 p.m. on Sunday (August 20).

The identity of the deceased female victim is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant G.T. Hall and Officer J.A. Vega reported:

A driver exiting the North Freeway (45 North) at Cavalcade crashed into the rear of another vehicle, which was stopped at a traffic light. According to witnesses, the striking vehicle did not appear to attempt to slow down or stop prior to the collision. A female passenger riding inside the stopped vehicle was severely injured and later died at an area hospital. There were no other injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
