August 5, 2006 -- Charges have
been filed against a suspect in the aggravated assault of a Houston
police officer at 4950 Burma about 6 p.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 2).
The suspect, James Ray Jackson (b/m, DOB: 6/9/54),
has been charged with aggravated assault against a public servant
and possession of a controlled substance in the 351st State District
Court.
HPD Officer R. Hahn, sworn in as an officer in
July of 1994 and assigned to the Narcotics Division, discharged
his weapon at the suspect, missing him. No one was injured.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.K. Peters and
Officer A.J. Palos reported:
Officer Hahn and other officers were serving
a warrant at 4950 Burma. Upon entering the residence, Officer
Hahn and others loudly announced they were police officers and
had a search warrant. As Hahn began to move down the hallway,
he observed Jackson, who was standing in a doorway at the end
of the hall, raise and point a shotgun at him. Fearing for his
life and the lives of the other officers, Officer Hahn discharged
his weapon twice, missing the suspect. Following the shooting,
Jackson surrendered and was taken into custody.
