Update On Incident at 3000 Greenridge
April 11, 2006 -- Charges have
been filed against a suspect arrested in the beating death of
a man found at 3000 Greenridge #1719 about 11:50 p.m. on December
9, 2005.
The suspect, Daniel Ray Smith (w/m, DOB 3-2-73),
is charged with capital murder in the 176th State District Court.
He is accused in the killing of Norman Oshman, 49, of 3000 Greenridge
#1719. Oshman suffered blunt trauma to the head and was pronounced
dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants S.R. Kennedy,
M.W. McStravick and Officer I.F. Flores Jr. reported:
Mr. Oshman returned to Houston from a business
trip on Thursday, December 8. On the evening of December 9, family
members became concerned because they had not heard from him.
They went to his apartment where they found Oshman dead. He had
been beaten.
On March 27, investigators released information
indicating Smith was a likely suspect in the murder and that he
had already been charged with credit / debit card abuse relating
to this case. That charge was filed in December 2005 after investigators
determined Smith had broken into Oshman's apartment and stolen
and used one of Oshman's credit cards.
The investigation has revealed that Oshman surprised
Smith as he (Smith) was burglarizing the apartment. Smith attacked
Oshman and fatally beat him. Smith then took cash and credit cards
from Oshman's wallet and left the apartment.
