Traffic Incident at 300 West Loop South
April 7, 2006 -- Additional
witnesses to a fatal accident that occurred on Thursday, April
6, 2006 around 12:45 p.m. in the 300 block of the I-610 West Loop
are asked to
contact police and provide needed information.
Witnesses at the scene told HPD Mobility Incident
Management Officer R. Palomo that the driver of a Lincoln Town
Car traveling northbound on the west loop north was attempting
to exit to the I-10 entrance ramp when he struck the impact barrels
on that entrance ramp. The driver of a flatbed Ford F-350 struck
the rear of the Lincoln Town Car causing the truck to jack-knife
and land on the concrete barrier that separates the north and
southbound lanes of the west loop. A fire erupted from the collision.
An Asian female, driving a Toyota Camry struck
the back end of the F-350 that was hanging over the barrier into
the southbound lane, causing major damage to her car. She suffered
minor injures. A 19-year-old male driver of a Chevrolet Cavalier
with a passenger in the car, traveling southbound on the west
loop north struck the back end of the F-350. He was killed in
that collision. An 18-wheeler, traveling northbound in the center
lane witnessed the impact between the F-350 and Lincoln Town Car
and struck the F-350 after the initial collision occurred.
This investigation is still ongoing. And anyone
who may have witnessed the accident and left the scene is asked
to contact the Houston Police Department Mobility Incident Management
