Traffic Incident at 3100 North Freeway

September 23, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 3100 North Freeway service road about 6:35 p.m. today (Sept. 23) involving a Houston police officer.

The victim has been identified as Jimmy R. Davis, 58. Sergeant Davis was a 36-year veteran of the Houston Police Department and assigned to the Robbery Division. He was pronounced dead at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant N.Q. Nguyen and Officers J. Tippy and R. Breiding reported:

Sergeant Jimmy Davis was in his personal vehicle traveling northbound in the 3100 block of the North Freeway service road. It appears he lost control of his vehicle, a Ford Ranger pickup truck, and struck a stop sign after suffering a possible heart attack.
