Drink, Drive, Go To Jail
September 2, 2005 -- Houston
police will be out in force over the Labor Day holiday weekend
looking for anyone who decides to drink and then get on the road.
Beginning TODAY, September 2, through Monday, September 5, the
department will have intense DWI enforcement activities on city
streets to combat the ongoing pervasive DWI problem.
The officers, working under the Texas Department
of Transportation grant-funded project, are highly trained in
DWI enforcement, and no tolerance will be given to those who get
stopped for drinking and driving. During last year's Labor Day
holiday weekend, in the city of Houston alone, there were seven
traffic fatalities with three fatalities related to drivers who
were intoxicated.
Everyone is encouraged to have a good time over
this long weekend and police officers want to make this a safe
holiday.
Don't go to jail for drinking and driving when
it can easily be prevented by taking a cab, calling a wrecker,
or having someone be a designated driver.
