Incident at 9707 South Gessner
October 26, 2005 -- Houston
police are searching for a suspect who shot and killed an off-duty
HPD officer at 9707 South Gessner about 3 a.m. today (Oct. 26).
The slain officer, Reuben
De Leon, 31, was assigned to the Fondren Patrol Division and
sworn in as an HPD officer in August of 1999.
HPD Homicide Division Officers C. L. Scales and
R. Moreno reported:
Officer De Leon and another off-duty officer
were at apartment #1015, wearing plain clothes. An unknown black
male knocked on the door of the apartment. The suspect shot Officer
De Leon multiple times when he answered the door and then fled
through the apartment complex. A forensic sketch is being prepared
and will be posted on the Houston Police Department's official
Web site later today.
Anyone with information in this case is urged
to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime
Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. In addition to the Crime Stoppers reward,
officials with Schepp's Dairy have posted an additional $10,000
reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in
this case.
