Incident at 5600 Malmedy
October 8, 2005 -- Charges are
pending against a juvenile suspect arrested in the fatal shooting
of a man at 5600 Malmedy about 12:15 a.m. today (Oct. 8).
The suspect, 16, is accused of killing Robert
Coleman, 42, of 6406 Kasserine Pass.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T. Hernandez and
Officer X. Avila reported:
Robert Coleman was at his residence grieving
the loss of a family member found shot to death at 9707 S. Gessner
on October 7, 2005 (HPD Incident #152950905), when he received
information that a relative's home was possibly going to be burglarized.
Mr. Coleman retrieved a handgun and proceeded to that home which
was located nearby. Upon arrival, Coleman confronted the juvenile
suspect on the street at 5600 Malmedy and an argument ensued.
Several shots were fired and Coleman was struck once in the head
and died at the scene.
Responding HPD officers took the juvenile suspect
into custody without incident. The on-scene investigation produced
evidence of a gun battle, however, no weapons were found.
