Incident at 3209 North Shepherd
November 8, 2005 -- A female
suspect was fatally shot by Houston police officers at 3209 North
Shepherd about 4:30 p.m. on Monday (Nov. 7).
The suspect, Angelina Brewer (w/f, DOB 4-28-57),
was pronounced dead at the scene. Three HPD officers involved
in the shooting were not injured.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J.H. Roberts and
Officer A.J. Palos reported:
The Department of Public Safety had reported
information on a vehicle belonging to an individual involved in
a suicide in-progress and a possible kidnapping. At about 2:20
p.m. on Monday, HPD officers saw the vehicle in question traveling
south on North Shepherd. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle,
but the suspect fled from officers and led them on a pursuit.
Officers managed to get the vehicle stopped in the 3200 block
of North Shepherd and saw what appeared to be a struggle between
the driver and passenger inside. The passenger door opened and
a pistol was thrown to the ground. The suspect, who was driving
the vehicle, jumped out and ran to the passenger side and attempted
to pick up the pistol. Officers, fearing the suspect would shoot
the passenger or them, fired several shots at the suspect.
The officers involved in the shooting, all assigned
to the North Patrol Division, were Sergeants C.E. Anderson and
K.H. Bounds and Officer L.T. Gibson. Sergeant Anderson was sworn
in as an officer in May 1981; Sergeant Bounds in December 1992,
and Officer Gibson in March 2000.
As is customary in officer-involved shootings
in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the
HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County
District Attorney's office.
