November 5, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a male at 8000 West Sam Houston Parkway South about 11:40 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2005.

The victim has been identified as Jimmy Charles Bailey, 31, of 1405 Westway Drive, Kileen, Texas. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Officers T. Cunningham and I. F. Flores reported:

Officers, responding to a shooting call at West Sam Houston Parkway South and Beechnut, found a Toyota Corolla and another vehicle crashed into one another. Investigators have determined through witness statements that Bailey, the driver of the Toyota Corolla, was stopped at the traffic light at West Sam Houston Parkway South and Beechnut when a white Nissan Maxima pulled up next to his vehicle. The occupants in both vehicles exchanged gunfire at one another. Bailey, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the underarm and legs, drove across the median and struck another vehicle. The unknown driver of the Nissan Maxima drove away eastbound on Beechnut. This investigation is ongoing.
