Update on Incident at 8713 Prairie View Drive
March 18, 2005 -- Houston police
homicide and robbery investigators have arrested three suspects
in a July 2003 fatal beating of an elderly man at 8713 Prairie
View Dr.
The suspects, Demarcus Tillis (b/m DOB: 8/12/83),
Richard Ellison (b/m DOB: 12/29/84), and Danny Adams (b/m DOB:
7/25/82), all have been charged with capital murder in the 182nd
State District Court. The suspects are accused in the killing
of Clinton Jackson, 80, of 8709 Prairie View Dr.
HPD Homicide Division Officer B. Harris and Robbery
Division Officer J. Bonnette reported:
About 1:25 p.m. on July 9, 2003, the suspects
entered the Jackson Food Store, robbed Mr. Jackson and severely
beat him. Each of the suspects got less than $50. Mr. Jackson
was taken to the hospital and was subsequently bedridden until
he died on October 15, 2004 as a result of blunt force head trauma.
The community assisted Officer Bonnette with
significant leads, which in turn led to numerous interviews. After
Mr. Jackson died, the Homicide Division got involved and suspects
were developed. After arrest warrants were obtained for the suspects,
they were taken into custody on March 10, 2005 and confessed to
their roles in the robbery and slaying of Mr. Jackson.
Mr. Jackson owned and operated the Jackson Food
Store since 1952. The suspects knew Mr. Jackson and in their confessions
described him as a nice man, and how as young boys it was a treat
to shop at his store.
