Incident at 3827 West Fuqua
March 13, 2005 -- Houston police
are investigating the death of a child at 3827 West Fuqua at 2:45
p.m. on Saturday March 12, 2005.
The victim's identity is pending notification
of next of kin.
HPD Homicide Division Officer A. Mares reported:
The victim and the suspect were under the care
of a local health care facility for the mentally challenged. Both
the victim and suspect demonstrate some form of mental illness
and medical conditions.
The victim was is the playroom sitting in a chair
when a staff member brought in the suspect. The suspect stood
up and unexpectedly charged at the victim. The suspect pushed
the victim back while still sitting on the chair and the victim
fell backwards. The victim's head struck the edge of a table that
was positioned behind him. The victim fell to the floor and a
staff member attempted to wake him up. HFD transported the victim
to Texas Children's Hospital with CPR in progress. The victim
was pronounced dead by Texas Children's Hospital medical personnel
at 4:05 p.m. An autopsy will be performed by the Harris County
Medical Examiner's office to determine the cause of death.
