Update on Incident at 6200 Laura Koppe
June 27, 2005 -- The victim
has been identified in the fatal shooting of a man at 6200 Laura
Koppe about 4:30 a.m. today (June 25).
The victim, Charles Kevin Long, 57, of 8700 Kennet
Valley suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and was pronounced
dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Officers T. J. McCorvey
and R. P. Martinez reported:
Long and a witness exited an after-hours club
located at 6200 Laura Koppe and entered Long's personal vehicle
when an unknown black male suspect approached that vehicle and
knocked on the driver's side window. According to the witness,
Long ignored the suspect and placed his vehicle in reverse and
started backing up when the suspect started firing a semiautomatic
weapon into the driver's door and window. Long's vehicle continued
to travel in reverse for one hundred yards before coming to rest
in a ditch along the north side of the street.
The witness stated the suspect continued to fire
at Long from the inside of a dark colored four-door sedan as the
victim's vehicle traveled out of control down the street. The
suspect fled the scene in the dark colored vehicle.
