Incident at 9400 Richmond
July 20, 2005 -- An armed suspect
was shot during a confrontation with Houston police officers at
9400 Richmond about 2:50 a. m. today (July 20).
The wounded suspect, an unknown white male, was
struck twice and transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where
he died in surgery. His identity is pending an autopsy by the
Harris County Medical Examiner's office.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants H. Kennedy and
C. W. Howard reported:
A wrecker driver was traveling east in the 9400
block of Richmond when the suspect jumped onto the back of his
wrecker. The suspect had a black automatic pistol in his hand
and was waving the weapon as he ranted and raved in a loud voice.
The wrecker driver hit his brakes, forcing the suspect to fall
from the vehicle. The wrecker driver then notified Houston police
via a cell phone.
HPD Officers C. C. Robertson and C. C. Lyall
arrived on the scene and observed the suspect as he continued
to wave his weapon around in a parking lot. The officers ordered
him to put his weapon down. Instead, the suspect pointed his weapon
at the officers who each fired at the suspect. The suspect was
struck twice in his right side.
Both officers are assigned to the Westside Patrol
Division. Officer Robertson was sworn in December 1985 and Officer
Lyall was sworn in March 1998. As is customary, the HPD Homicide
and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District
Attorney's office are investigating the incident.
