Update on Incident at 5100 Ireland
February 28, 2005 -- Houston
police homicide investigators have arrested two suspects in the
fatal shooting of a man in the 5100 block of Ireland about 7:30
p.m. on February 14.
Robert Lavan Benford (b/m, DOB 7-26-72) and Damien
Jerome Dillard (b/m, DOB 9-21-84) are both charged with capital
murder in the 248th State District Court. They are accused in
the killing of Herrera Ramirez Porfirio, 29, of 5217 Ireland.
Porfirio suffered several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead
at Ben Taub General Hospital.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C.B. Douglas and
Officer D.R. Shorten reported:
Porfirio and a witness were walking in the 5100
block of Ireland when they were approached by two unknown black
males, one on a bicycle and the other on foot. According to the
witness, the male on the bicycle blocked them in, and the shooter
stood behind them. The witness stated he then ran from the scene.
At that time, Porfirio was shot several times.
Investigators learned the identities on the suspects
and took them into custody for questioning on February 24. Charges
were filed against both suspects the following day.
