Incident at 2300 Mason
December 15, 2005 -- Charges
are pending in the shooting of an HPD officer today, December
15 about 12:25 a.m.
The officer sustained a gunshot wound to the
abdomen and ankle. He was transported to Herman Hospital and is
presently in good condition.
Three of the suspects are identified as H/m between
the ages of 17 to 22. Two of them were transported to Ben Taub
Hospital with gunshot wounds. The fourth suspect sustained gunshot
wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants C.W. Howard and
L.A. Flores and Officers P. Yochum and B. Evans reported:
HPD Narcotics officers were conducting an investigation
in the 2300 block of Mason when they were approached by four Hispanic
males in a small gold Toyota 4-door. The suspects approached the
officers and asked if the officers may be interested in purchasing
Marijuana. The officers expressed that they were not interested
and the suspects left. The suspects returned and asked the officers
if they might be interested in purchasing Cocaine. When the officers
approached the suspects in an attempt to arrange and negotiate
the transaction, two of the suspects attempted to rob one of the
officers.
The suspects produced firearms and began firing
at officers. The officers returned fire, striking and fatally
injuring one of the suspects. One of them was apprehended at the
scene and two others fled. They were apprehended shortly after
beneath a house in the 200 block of Stratford.
