Update on Incident at 8003 Fillmore
December 7, 2005 -- Houston
police have arrested and charged two men in the fatal shooting
of Valdemar Vega that occurred at 8003 Fillmore on December 2,
2005 about 9:15 a.m. The suspects Albert Ray Wiggins (bm/ DOB
6-14-84) and Jason Dubois Sanders (bm/ DOB 11-8-85) were taken
into custody without incident around 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December
6, 2005 at a motel in LaPorte, Texas. Surveillance photos printed
in newspapers and aired on TV newscast prompted several Crime
Stoppers tips to investigators. The suspects were transported
back to Houston where they gave confessions regarding the murder
of Mr. Vega.
Both suspects have been charged with capital
murder in the 230th State District Court. Photos of the suspects
will not be made available until line-ups have been completed.
The details of the incident are as follows:
The victim is identified as Valdemar Vega, 52,
of 8003 Fillmore. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and
was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J.R. Swaim and
Officer A.D. Brown reported:
Mr. Vega owned and operated a meat market/check
cashing business located at 8003 Fillmore. At approximately 9:15
December 2, two young black males entered the store wearing ski
masks and carrying dark colored semi-automatic pistols. The suspects
robbed the store and fatally shot Mr. Vega. The suspects fled
on foot with an undetermined amount of cash. The suspects were
wearing dark colored sweatshirts and baggy blue jean shorts.
