Update on Incident at 1800 Campbell Street
August 29, 2005 -- The fatal
shooting of a man at 1800 Campbell Street about 4:30 a.m. on August
22 will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The male victim, identified as Casey Wayne Burley,
33, address unknown, was shot twice in the chest and pronounced
dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T. C. Bloyd and
Officer D. L. Robertson reported:
A witness discovered the victim's body in the
1800 block of Campbell near the intersection of Maury. Between
the hours of 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., area residents heard gunshots,
but did not see anything. At this time, robbery does not appear
to be the motive in this shooting. The victim's wallet was found
in his pocket, but he did not have any identification on him.
After investigators learned Burley's identity,
a follow-up investigation was conducted and revealed that Burley
had broken into the suspect's residence at 219 Maury and attacked
him with a baseball bat. The suspect, Jorge Garcia Rosales (H/m,
DOB 2-14-77), said he shot Burley in self-defense.
