Incident at 2700 South Kirkwood
August 8, 2005 -- Houston police
are searching for a suspect wanted in connection with an aggravated
assault of a police officer at 2700 South Kirkwood on August 6,
2005 about 10 p.m.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.K. Peters and
Officer A.J. Palos reported:
Officer D.L. Boxie, a six-year veteran who works
at the Jail Division, was working an approved extra job at this
location. She was not injured.
Officer Boxie was notified by store security
that there was a pair of male shoplifters who needed to be arrested.
She went outside the store with store security personnel who pointed
one of the suspects to her. Officer Boxie gave the suspect verbal
commands and attempted to restrain him. The suspect disregarded
commands, broke free and fled. The suspect got into his vehicle
and was again confronted by Officer Boxie in another attempt to
detain him.
The suspect backed his car out of the parking
space in a violent manner and struck two vehicles parked across
from him. Officer Boxie was still giving commands to get the suspect
to stop and get out of his vehicle. Officer Boxie observed customers
walking behind the suspect's vehicle and in fear of their safety
she fired her weapon at the suspect. The round did not hit the
suspect but possibly hit his front drivers' side tire. The suspect
got away. The suspect is described as a black male in his mid
30s to mid 40s, 6 feet tall and approximately 250 pounds.
