Incident at 4045 North Freeway #240
August 2, 2005 -- Charges have
been filed in the death of Marvin Calles Jr., 23 month old, at
4045 North Freeway #240, on Monday, July 4, 2005 about 11 a.m.
The suspect, Chrisy
Castillo (w/f DOB: 12-10-77), has been arrested and charged
with murder by omission in the 351st State District Court.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant P.C. Motard and
Officer C.P. Abbey reported:
HFD paramedics took the child, Marvin Calles
Jr., to Hermann Memorial Northwest Hospital after his mother discovered
he was not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators viewed Marvin's body at the hospital while conducting
a follow-up investigation and they noted that he appeared to be
under weight.
The Harris County Medical Examiner's Office conducted
an autopsy and determined that Marvin was dehydrated, malnourished
and only weighed 18 pounds at the time of his death. The autopsy
also revealed that he suffered from cerebral palsy and had limited
use of his arms and legs.
During interviews with homicide investigators,
Castillo admitted to being the sole care provider for Marvin.
She told investigators that she had been living in various motels
with Marvin and his three-year-old sibling for the past two months.
