Solid Waste Management Department Announces the Expansion of the All-Plastics Program
The City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD), in partnership with Cyclyx, ExxonMobil, and LyondellBasell, is excited to announce the expansion of the All-Plastics acceptance program at all six Neighborhood Depositories drop-off centers starting on April 16, 2024. The All-Plastics program was implemented in December 2022 in Kingwood to divert plastic waste from landfills and increase plastic recycling rates. Residents are asked to bag all plastics and bring them to the following six locations:
Neighborhood Depository All-Plastics Expansion Locations:
- Northwest - 14400 Sommermeyer 77041
- Northeast - 5565 Kirkpatrick 77028
- Southeast - 2240 Central Street 77017
- South - 5100 Sunbeam 77033
- Southwest - 10785 SW Freeway 77074
* Neighborhood Depository hours are Tuesday- Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
This expansion builds on the success of the All-Plastics program, which is currently implemented at Kingwood Recycling Center, North Main Neighborhood Depository, and Westpark Consumer Recycling Center (currently under construction). Since December 2022, the program has collected roughly 400,000 pounds of plastic waste.
“One of the Solid Waste Management Department’s key goals is to be innovative in our approach to diverting waste from landfills. With the expansion of the All-Plastics program, SWMD is continuing our mission to expand opportunities for Houston Residents to increase recycling efforts, including traditionally hard-to-recycle plastics,” said SWMD Director Mark Wilfalk.
The All-Plastics program will accept all numbered plastics, such as milk jugs, detergent bottles, and shampoo bottles, as well as non-numbered plastics, such as straws, takeout containers, dry cleaner bags, bubble wrap, and foam trays.
