The City of Houston Department of Neighborhoods (DON) is proud to partner with the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) and the Houston Black Real Estate Association for their inaugural presentation of the Building Black Wealth Tour, scheduled for Saturday, October 7, 2023, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at The Collective (formerly The Power Center), 12401 S. Post Oak Rd., Houston, TX 77045. The event kicks off a 60-city national tour that will feature a series of free workshops with a focus on home ownership, and topics such as down payments, closing costs, building good credit, understanding lending requirements, and how to manage inherited property.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with professionals, including realtors, lenders, housing counselors, and real estate attorneys to address questions and provide guidance. The event will also feature youth activities, food trucks, free credit reports, housing counselors, door prizes & giveaways.
Make plans to join the department’s panel presentation entitled, “What to Do with Big Mama’s House: Rental Options for Inheritance Properties,” featuring panelists Onaje Barnes and Corey Franklin with the Harris County Housing Authority. The session will focus on how to turn inheritance properties into short-term rentals/Air B&Bs, how to become a Housing Authority landlord, and renovation financing opportunities.
